Restocking Our Pond

🌿 Restocking Our Pond: Fathead Minnows to Support Bluegill & Bass! 🎣

We’re excited to share that the Johnson Nature Center has just stocked 50 pounds of fathead minnows in our pond as part of our ongoing Pond Restoration & Education Initiative!

These tiny but mighty fish—roughly 300 to 350 minnows per pound, totaling over 15,000—serve as a vital food source for our bluegill and bass populations. Not only will this help maintain a balanced ecosystem, but it also ensures a healthy, sustainable fishery for our student fishing programs and community events.

🧬 Why Fathead Minnows?

  • Excellent forage fish for larger species

  • Rapid reproduction: they spawn every 5–10 days during warm months

  • Boost biodiversity and pond health naturally

This initiative supports our mission to educate future conservationists, protect local wildlife, and keep nature thriving for generations to come.

🎉 Join us for upcoming family fishing days, student workshops, and more fun community events at the pond!
